Russia needs synchrotrons: Vladimir Putin supported the idea of the Global Energy Prize laureate
Yesterday, during a meeting of the Council for Science and Education, which Vladimir Putin hold in Novosibirsk, the Global Energy Prize laureate - 2016, the chairman of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences Valentin Parmon, suggested the creation of a synchrotron radiation center and a large research complex for collective use.
"An extremely important problem for Russia, not only for the Siberian branch, is that unfortunately, for the last decades Russia has not implemented a single large-scale scientific project. This center is multidisciplinary, in its appearance, a variety of disciplines are interested, not only in the Siberian region, but also in the world, in the central part of Russia. Biologists, doctors, physicists and everybody, "Parmon said.
He noted that new competencies would appear on the basis of this "ambitious project" and "the main thing is that the young people would get up, she would see that it is necessary to remain here, that here the largest projects can be realized." The laureate of the Global Energy Prize asked the president to instruct the government to support the project.
The President stressed that state support should be aimed at practical results in the field of science, and noted, that it is necessary to understand the cost and implementation stages of such a project.
"Synchrotron is a source of unique x-ray radiation. It is extremely demanded for diagnosis...", - noted the head of RAS Alexander Sergeev, supporting the key message of Valentin Parmon. It is also a serious commercial product, he added.
It should be noted that according to scientists, the synchrotron with stations will cost about 40 billion rubles. Now, there are about 50 such installations in the world.
Vladimir Putin agreed that it is necessary to create similar projects within the country, because they unite, mobilize and become engines of the future. "It is obvious that now the leader will be the one who will have their own technologies, knowledge and competencies. These are the most important resources of development which secure the sovereignty of the country without any exaggeration,” - the president said.- “And, of course, the country expects from science new solutions that can change the quality of people lives and foster dynamics of development of Russia."
